Saw a bit of Hage in Kitchener. Was drafted by Rangers and attended prospects camp before keeping word with Chicago Steel. Even two yrs ago, it was clear he was talented.

My Dad knew Michael Hage's Dad and he passed away by drowning in swimming pool at a party. Amazing how Hage was able to still overcome such a traumatic experience and making the NHL for his favorite team.

I'm curious if by trading up to 21, if Hughes was after Boisvert (Hughes says Hage was the target of course). Nonetheless, Hage has a balanced game, speed/skating, scoring, PP, playmaking, some physicality, 2 way center. Demidov ranks on an MHL list with Kucherov, no need to say more except hope his knees are good. Montreal selected NO ONE under 6 feet tall, how about that! In fact, they drafted TWO underdog big forwards, one 6'5 the other 6'4. Tyler Thorpe, if he continues to develop, is a heavy shot puck deflecting monster with physicality that comes with low penalty minutes. 6'5" 210 lb 18 yr old winger still adjusting to his 6" growth spurt, has an NHL work rate, moves well for his size , 23 goals, 21 assists in 51 games in his first WHL season. 130th 5th round pick that was expected to go late 3rd or 4th round. Then Ben Merrill, 6'4" center, displays a hard shot and a willingness to compete for pucks and move his feet. Big guys often develop slower, in a couple/few years either might become a welcome power forward. TheScore grades Montreal's 2024 draft picks an A+!!!! Even the 210th pick Russian played decent as a VHL rookie(= Russian AHL) was a good pick, needs to add muscle though. Only other team graded A+ was San Jose.

Montreal had themselves a hell of a draft. The blandhawks desperately needed offense so of course they take a defenseman and a forward who they could have drafted at #20. Montreal gets A+ for draft Chicago C+.
